Feb. 12 2:57 PM PT3:57 PM MT4:57 PM CT5:57 PM ET22:57 GMT6:57 AM 北京时间3:57 PM MST5:57 PM EST4:57 PM CT2:57 UAE (+1)17:57 ET20:57 - Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says the club released strong safety Roman Harper, outside linebacker and defensive end Will Smith, and cornerback Jabari Greer. Loomis also says the club does not intend to re-sign linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who has been hampered by recurring knee injuries the past few seasons.
Analysis: Loomis says parting ways with four longtime Saints who played key roles in the club's only Super Bowl title was difficult. However, he says the moves were needed to help New Orleans bring its player payroll below the NFL's salary cap. Wednesday's moves will save nearly $17 million in 2014.
Nov. 6 1:18 PM PT2:18 PM MT3:18 PM CT4:18 PM ET21:18 GMT5:18 AM 北京时间2:18 PM MST4:18 PM EST3:18 PM CT1:18 UAE (+1)16:18 ET19:18 - The New Orleans Saints have moved Vilma to injured reserve, ending his season - and possibly his career - only three days after he had returned for his first game of this season.
Analysis: Vilma began the season on short-term injured reserve because of an arthroscopic procedure in August on his left knee, which has troubled him through multiple surgeries over the past two-plus seasons. The designation allowed the 10th-year linebacker to return to practice in Week 8 and to the active roster in Week 9. Vilma was activated Saturday and played 12 defensive snaps in a 26-20 loss to his former team, the New York Jets, on Sunday.
Aug. 15 3:56 PM PT4:56 PM MT5:56 PM CT6:56 PM ET22:56 GMT6:56 AM 北京时间3:56 PM MST5:56 PM EST5:56 PM CT2:56 UAE (+1)18:56 ET21:56 - Vilma is making his season debut after being removed from the injured reserve list Saturday.
Analysis: Vilma, who began his career with the Jets, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in August and practiced the past two weeks without limitations.
Mar. 12 2:25 PM PT3:25 PM MT4:25 PM CT5:25 PM ET21:25 GMT5:25 AM 北京时间2:25 PM MST4:25 PM EST3:25 PM CT1:25 UAE (+1)17:25 ET20:25 - People familiar with the situation say defensive end Will Smith and Vilma has agreed to restructure his contract in order to remain with the New Orleans Saints.
Analysis: The 31-year-old Smith and 30-year-old Vilma, both veteran defensive captains who were implicated in the NFL's bounty probe, would have consumed about $23 million combined in salary cap space had they not agreed to new deals before the new league year - and free agency - began Tuesday afternoon.
