The Twins announced the move on Tuesday, one day after Nolasco left the team in Seattle to return to Minnesota for an examination.
Analysis: The Twins signed Nolasco in the offseason to a four-year, $49 million deal to bolster one of the league's worst starting rotations. But he is 5-7 with a 5.90 ERA in 18 starts this season. Nolasco told the Twins on Monday that he has been pitching through discomfort in his elbow all season.

Analysis: Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said Nolasco (5-7) met with manager Ron Gardenhire on Monday before the series opener against the Seattle Mariners and told him he had felt pain all season. Antony said Nolasco believed he could pitch through the soreness, but he couldn't get loose on Sunday and then allowed six runs in two innings against the New York Yankees.

Analysis: Nolasco (5-6, 5.49 ERA) gave up one run in six innings. He allowed six runs and matched a season high with 11 hits in six innings in a 6-4 loss at the Los Angeles Angels on June 26. Minnesota signed Nolasco to a $49 million, four-year contract in the offseason, hoping he would help a rotation that had a major league-worst 5.26 ERA last year. Nolasco has struggled, however, posting a 5.49 ERA. He pitched more than six innings just once in his past 11 starts.
