Analysis: Montgomery was 4-6 with 4.60 ERA in 16 starts for Seattle. He lasted just 1 1-3 innings against Oakland on Tuesday and was charged with five runs and seven hits.

Analysis: Montgomery, who turned 26 on Wednesday, was coming off his first career shutout, a five-hitter against Kansas City. It was the seventh time a Mariners pitcher threw consecutive shutouts - Randy Johnson did it three times, including three straight in 1994, and Mark Langston did it twice. Montgomery is the 12th major league rookie, and second Mariners pitcher, to do it since 1980. Langston pitched consecutive shutouts for the Mariners on June 26 and July 1, 1984.

Analysis: Montgomery (2-2, 2.04 ERA) struck out 10 in his fifth major league start and became the 10th rookie in Mariners history to record a complete game.

Analysis: Montgomery allowed one run, four hits and a pair of walks in his six innings. Seattle closer Fernando Rodney, though, had his third blown save of the season in a 5-3 defeat in 11 innings.

Analysis: Montgomery has not pitched in the major leagues. He was drafted by the Royals with the 36th pick in 2008. The Rays obtained Montgomery as part of the seven-player trade that sent James Shields to Kansas City for Wil Myers before the 2013 season. Montgomery won 10 games last year at Triple-A Durham. He made six relief appearances this spring with the Rays, giving up three runs - two earned - in 11 1-3 innings.
