The deal Monday came three days after Texas designated McGuiness for assignment to clear room on its roster after free-agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo signed a $130 million, seven-year deal.
Analysis: McGuiness hit .176 with one RBI in 10 games for Texas last season. He hit .246 with 11 home runs, and 63 RBI in 104 games at Triple-A Round Rock.

After being taken in the Rule 5 draft last December, McGuiness and Woods had to be offered back to their former organizations if not on the major league opening day roster.
Analysis: McGuiness, who hit .195 this spring with the Indians, was assigned outright Wednesday to Triple-A Round Rock. He hit .268 with 23 homers and 77 RBI in 123 games last season at Frisco, the Rangers' Double-A team. McGuiness was MVP in the 2012 Arizona Fall League with a .283 average and league-best 27 RBIs.
