Analysis: The 26-year-old Oden faces two preliminary misdemeanor battery counts after the incident Thursday morning at his mother's suburban home in Lawrence. A police report says officers were called to the home at around 3:30 a.m. and found a 24-year-old woman on a sofa with a swollen, bloody face. A friend of the woman told officers that Oden had "punched her in the face." Oden told officers he and the woman had dated for about two years but split up two months ago.

Mike Conley Sr., one of Oden's agents, said Oden has informed the Heat that he will accept their contract offer, a process that will likely be formally completed early next week.
Analysis: Oden's decision ends months of suspense that saw several NBA teams line up for a chance to sign the former No. 1 pick whose career has been derailed by a series of knee problems. Conley said Oden was also very interested in learning from Tim Duncan and playing for Gregg Popovich in San Antonio, that he was impressed when he met with Dallas owner Mark Cuban, and that he's had a close relationship for some time with New Orleans coach Monty Williams.
