He broke his finger and partially tore a tendon in it during Tuesday night's win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Losing Ericsson is a setback for the banged-up team, which is without many forwards, including Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. The Red Wings called up defenseman Adam Almquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Analysis: Ericsson suffered the injury against the Islanders on Dec. 23. He is expected to be evaluated again in two weeks to determine when he might come back. It's another injury blow for the Wings, who are having trouble staying healthy. The injury also puts the 29-year-old Swede's availability in doubt for the Sochi Olympics.

Analysis: Detroit drafted Ericsson with the last pick in the 2002 NHL draft, 291st overall, and he has played in 292 games since making his debut in the league during the 2007-08 season. He averaged 20-plus minutes a game last season for the first time in his career. He had 13 points - two shy of his career high - in 45 games last season during the lockout-shortened slate.
